Calming Your Anxious Dog

When anxiety strikes your dog, frankly, it sucks. I have a dog whose worst nightmare (like many dogs) is fireworks. But, as she has gotten older that anxiety has grown and morphed. Anyone packing a bag, opening and closing the door too many times, or even getting her leash out…she starts to lose it. It can be really heartbreaking to see her so stressed. Even then, I know I am a lucky dog-owner, as someone without a chronically anxious dog. My mother-in-law’s dog can hardly handle the sound of a bag of chips being opened, lest he thinks it is actually an intruder.
