Nature, in the home
East Perry Collections
A sheepskin blanket regulates your body temperature, soothes irritated skin with natural lanolin, and actually gets softer the longer you own it. We've yet to find a synthetic throw that can do any of that.
Our blankets are full hides from free-range mountain sheep in Poland and Eastern Europe. Tanned with bio-based lactic acid. Softened with lanolin and animal fats. Zero dyes, zero chrome, zero synthetic anything. The fur is dense and plush, heavy enough to use as sheepskin weighted blankets for pressure therapy, and gorgeous draped across a bed or layered on a couch.
We started East Perry in 2016, and over 10,000 families have brought our sheepskin into their homes since then. If the only sheepskin you've touched came from a big-box store, you'll understand the difference the second you open the box. The fur is thicker. The leather is supple. And there's no chemical smell, because there are no chemicals. Layer one with any of our other sheepskin products and your whole room changes.
Sheepskin Blankets
Where These Hides Come From (And Why It Matters)
Our hides come from small, family-run farms across Poland and Eastern Europe. The sheep graze freely through mountain pastures. Every hide is a byproduct of the meat industry, so no animal is ever raised solely for its skin.
Here's where the sourcing conversation gets real. About 98% of sheepskin on the market is chrome-tanned. That's an industrial process involving heavy metals that strips out the lanolin, weakens the fiber over time, and leaves chemical residues in the leather. It's fast and it's cheap and it's how mass-market retailers keep prices low. Our hides go through a completely different process: bio-based lactic acid for tanning, lanolin and animal fats for softening, wood chip tannins for cleaning. It takes longer. It costs more. And you can feel it.
The result is a blanket your newborn can lie on safely, durable enough to hand down to your grandkids. Our sheepskin for babies collection is built on the same standard.
Sheepskin vs. a Wool Throw: Not the Same Thing
People sometimes assume a sheepskin blanket is just a fancy wool throw. It's not. A sheepskin blanket is the full intact hide, fur and leather together, and that changes how it performs in pretty significant ways.
The leather backing gives it real weight. Many of our customers use their sheepskin blanket instead of a traditional weighted blanket because the gentle pressure, combined with lanolin's calming properties, helps with sleep and anxiety. That's not marketing language. The International Wool Textile Organisation has documented the thermoregulatory and therapeutic properties of sheepskin fiber extensively.
Then there's temperature. Sheepskin fibers are hollow, so they insulate when it's cold and wick moisture when it's warm. Synthetic fleece just traps heat. Cotton breathes fine but won't keep you warm. Sheepskin handles both, which is why medical grade sheepskin has been used in hospitals and wellness settings for decades.
Who Buys These
Parents are a big one. If you're building a nursery and you care about what touches your baby's skin, a chemical-free, hypoallergenic sheepskin blanket is hard to beat. The lanolin helps soothe eczema and sensitive skin, and the natural temperature regulation means fewer middle-of-the-night wake-ups from overheating.
People dealing with chronic pain or poor sleep are another. The weight plus the lanolin creates a combination that genuinely helps, not in a vague wellness-marketing way, but in a way you'll notice the first night.
And then there's everyone who just wants their home to feel like something. Real texture, real materials, real warmth. Nothing else adds that to a room quite the way sheepskin does. If your pets feel the same way, our sheepskin dog beds are built on the same sourcing and tanning philosophy. Dogs are drawn to natural sheepskin instinctively, and sheepskin for dog anxiety is backed by real behavioral research.
Picking the Right One
Every blanket in this collection is a natural hide, so expect variation. Color ranges from ivory to warm tawny brown. Size, shape, and fur density shift from piece to piece. That's what genuine looks like.
For layering across the foot of a bed, a single hide works perfectly. For full-body coverage or a weighted blanket effect, go larger or layer two together.
Keeping It Beautiful
Simpler than you'd expect. Shake it out every couple of weeks. Brush the fur once a month with a wire comb. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild wool detergent when something spills. Never put it in the dryer or leave it in direct sun. That's really it.
Sheepskin's lanolin content makes the fur naturally resistant to dirt, bacteria, and odor. You'll wash this blanket far less often than anything else on your bed. Our sheepskin care guide covers washing, brushing, and long-term storage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are sheepskin blankets safe for babies?
Yes. Our blankets are tanned with bio-based lactic acid and contain zero chrome, dyes, or synthetic chemicals. Sheepskin is naturally hypoallergenic, and families have trusted it as a sheepskin baby shower gift for generations.
How heavy is a sheepskin blanket?
Heavy enough to feel like a weighted blanket, thanks to the intact leather backing. Exact weight varies by hide since every piece is unique, but expect a substantial, grounding feel that synthetic throws can't replicate.
How long will it last?
Thirty years, easily. Longer with good care. The fur gets softer over time, not weaker, and lanolin-rich fiber resists the kind of matting and breakdown you see in synthetic materials.
What's different about your sheepskin compared to big-box brands?
Most mass-market sheepskin is chrome-tanned, chemically dyed, and stripped of lanolin during processing. Ours is tanned with lactic acid, softened with lanolin and animal fats, and left completely un-dyed. You're getting the full natural hide, not a chemically processed version of one.
Can I use a sheepskin blanket if I have allergies?
Sheepskin is naturally hypoallergenic. Lanolin repels dust mites and resists bacterial growth, making it a stronger choice for allergy sufferers than most synthetic bedding. The health benefits of sheepskin extend well beyond temperature regulation.
Why does my sheepskin blanket have natural variations?
Every hide is unique because every animal is unique. Expect slight differences in size, shape, color, and fur density from piece to piece. Small imperfections like scars or bald spots are normal and a sign you're looking at real, un-dyed sheepskin, not a factory-processed product.
